Orion Sound Studios is a rehearsal and recording studio located in Baltimore, Maryland.   Celebrating our 10th year of serving Baltimore's music community, we offer a variety of services including 30 safe and secure rehearsal studios available on a monthly basis, a 48-track digital recording studio, a 24-track live showcase studio, a 1000 square foot rehearsal room available for nightly rehearsals or for touring bands, and a 40-track mobile recording rig.  Click the links at the top of this page to check out Baltimore's best place to rehearse and record! 

BAND REHEARSAL ROOM AVAILABILITY - August/September 2008

At the current time all of my monthly rehearsal rooms are under lease, at least through September.  There isn't much of a waiting list right now so if something opens up unexpectedly and you want to be notified please email me at info@orionsound.com and you'll get an email notification of pending vacancies.

  As an alternative it may make sense for your band to use our hourly rehearsal room, which rents for $60 for a 4-hour session.  The room is about 32 feet square, with 16-foot ceilings.  There is a small PA included which is adequate for vocals and includes mics, stands, and so on.  Sadly, no backline is provided so that means you need to haul your gear.  But then you could look at it this way; hauling gear is a lot of what you'll be doing when you play out a lot.  What better way to stay in shape while simultaneously learning to keep your band's gig equipment list as lean as possible?

We're currently offering a very special price on a weekend recording package that is tailored towards creating a great demo CD for your band. 

Recording package includes: Setup time Two  recording sessions (total 15 hours) Two five hour mix sessions CD of your final mix 24-bit copy of your mix to take to mastering Complete archive/backup of your sessions to digital tape, hard disk, or DVD is optionally available   Total price:  $750.00

How it works:

    Typically you would load your gear in on a Friday afternoon/evening.  We would get everything mic'ed up and ready for recording starting on Saturday morning.  Then we would record all day Saturday (11-ish to 7-ish) and all day Sunday (noon to 7-ish).  You could then pick a couple of evenings during the following week for mixdown sessions.  While this outline is "typical" its certainly not the only scenario possible.  Depending on what other projects are currently in-house we can be very flexible. 

Studio Features

The Mackie d8b mixer is equipped with numerous software plugins, the latest operating system, and I/O hardware capable of mixing 32 digital and 24 analogue tracks simultaneously.	The studio headphone system runs via Cat 5 cable to Aviom 16-channel digital mixers, one of which is shown above.  There are 10 headphone mix positions throughout the studio.	Most of the recording is done through a variety of vacuum tube and premium solid state preamps.  Shown here are a pair of Avalon 737sp, Universal Audio 6176, and an Aphex 1100A.
The studio includes over 1200 square feet of acoustically designed recording space with a large drum room and two isolation rooms.	We feature a diverse and growing variety of microphones from B.L.U.E., Shure, Senheisser, Audio Technica, and others.	Some things you just can't take a picture of, like our relaxed yet productive atmosphere and our commitment to providing you with a  quality product at a great price.
